SCSU

Southern Connecticut State University is a public university in New Haven. The site takes a prospective student from a campus tour to an application and holds news, research, athletics and student services in one place.

Challenge

SCSU has 225+ programs, separate entries for undergraduate, graduate and professional development, plus news, a calendar, the library, Owls athletics and internal services like One Stop. The audiences are different: a future student, a parent, faculty, an alumnus, an employer.

A university portal cannot be “taken down for repairs”. Every day it takes applications, open-house registrations and tour requests. The job is to keep the structure clear and not lose a single journey in the menu.

Solution

We worked with the portal on Drupal 10: distinct Apply / Visit / Give paths, blocks for Undergraduate, Graduate and Professional Development, research news and fast access to campus services.

The focus is the visitor’s first step: book a tour, come to an open house or apply — without wandering the site. In parallel — a Spanish version, accessibility, and a faculty news feed.

How it works

  1. 01

    Admissions

Apply, Visit, Give — three short actions from any page: an application, a tour, support for the university.

  2. 02

    Academics

Undergraduate, graduate, professional development and 225+ programs — each visitor finds their entry point.

  3. 03

    Campus

News, calendar, library, athletics, a map and One Stop — university services in one place.

  4. 04

    Research

R2 status, labs and grants — the university shows science as visibly as the admissions campaign.

Features

  • Separate journeys for undergraduate, graduate and professional programs
  • Campus tour and open house registration
  • News, events calendar, directory
  • Research, careers, Owls athletics
  • Spanish version and accessibility requirements

Results

  • A large university portal stays coherent, not a “site inside a site”
  • A prospective student sees the next action: a tour, an open house or an application
  • Experience working with a public university in the USA

Stack

  • Drupal 10
  • GTM / analytics
  • Responsive layout
